The Costume collection includes items of men's, women's and children's clothing
and accessories from early 17th century to the present day. Items ranging from
pieces of international fashion and style significance to those with strong local
links are displayed at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery. There is a unique collection
of surviving costumes from Les Ballets in 1933. In recent years a subcultural
dress collection has been built up together with supporting oral histories and
photographs. The textile collection includes holdings of needlework from the mid
17th century, including 18th and 19th samplers.
