Born in Bruges, of Welsh parents, Brangwyn poured his talent into every aspect of the fine and applied arts. An indefatigable traveller all his life, Brangwyn was fascinated by the architecture and technology of bridges, ships, churches, stations and trains. Here the steam train takes on a heroic aspect, almost becoming, as one commentator has written, 'smoking, writhing, living matter'. The station is probably King's Cross.
