Introduction

This painting is by Edward Wadsworth, an artist associated with the Vorticist movement before and during the First World War period. It depicts a pile of twisted girders and curved wooden beams in a field with yachts on a strip of deep blue sea set against a clear blue sky. This picture reflects Wadworth's abstract style and his interest in the machine, industrial and martime subjects of the early 20th century.
