Introduction | Past Gallery Label

This is a black viscose dress designed by Jean Muir. It is simply cut and constructed. Working with the dictates of the cloth it drapes in loose, fluid lines from shoulder to hem. Jean Muir’s designs won her the accolade of ‘modern minimalist.’

This dress was worn by Joanna Lumley, who began her career in the 1960s as Jean Muir’s house model. Lumley describes this dress as her ‘dear little classic’.
