Introduction

This evening bodice was worn by Maud Messel. It is made of black velvet trimmed wtih black bead decoration, jet shapes on gold lace, and four medallions at the waist with jet and clear beads. It has cape sleeves. The designer of this bodice is unknown. It dates from circa 1912-1914.

This bodice is part of the Messel Dress Collection, which includes six generations of one family’s clothes dating from 1870 - 2005.
