Introduction

This painting by Stanhope Forbes is of Mousehole Harbour in Cornwall. Forbes settled in Newlyn in 1884 and painted many scenes of Cornwall in his lifetime. This picture shows two figures sitting by the harbour's edge that leads down to the water and a line of sailing boats. Behind the boats, in the distance, the harbour wall is lit up in the sunshine. On the right hand side of the painting a building with white steps leads up to a doorway.
