Introduction

This is a plaster profile figure of the dipper, Martha Gunn, standing with her hands on her hips and wearing a blue coat, dress and hat. The duty of the dipper was to vigorously plunge the sea bather into and out of the sea. Martha Gunn dipped from around 1750 - 1814. The figure was made in the 19th century.
