Introduction | Gallery Label This is a wooden headrest carved from a single piece of wood. It depicts a female torso with arms upstretched and incised markings on the stomach. The arms support a slightly convex pillow on the figure's head. This headrest was created by a Luba maker in Zaire during the late nineteenth century. The headrest was purchased by Brighton Museum in 1908. It is on display in the Body Gallery, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery.
