Introduction | Gallery Label

This is a large handmade pot or water jar with depressed base, pronounced collar and everted rim. It is decorated with stylized representations of hunted deer, each having an 'arrow' painted from the mouth to the heart. There is also a rosette design and other traditional patterns on each side. This jar (known locally as an 'olla') was created from clay by a Zuni maker in New Mexico, USA, during the late nineteenth century.
