Detail of the withies used as the base for the lantern costume

Brighton Museum commissioned Same Sky artist Nicky Gunson to design and build a lantern costume which could be displayed in the new Gallery.

Winter, time, caught in time, frozen in time, death, mother time, the not-so-grim reaper, frozen to the bone, skeleton, cycles, clocks, webs, were all ideas used to create and inspire the costume.

Nicky performed the costume in the very wet and rainy New Year 2000 parade. It was obviously not burnt on the bonfire.
