Carden Avenue Estate, Brighton, 1950

The Carden Avenue Estate was built in the late 1940s. It was named after Sir Herbert Carden, a former mayor and alderman of Brighton. Carden is often regarded as the father of modern Brighton, as he was the driving force behind many of the Council's development projects.

The Borough Surveyor's photographs of this estate pay a good deal of attention to the brickwork used in these houses. The department also took the unusual step of taking several photographs of the interiors of the houses.
