| Punch cast in Performance Gallery |
Thats the way to do it!
That reedy voice and those distinctive movements - striking, throwing, nodding - bring Mr. Punch and his friends to life above the bustling crowd.
Punch performers of the 19th century used spontaneity, wit and biting satire to attract their crowds above the noise of the busy street.
When English people took up seaside holidays, Punch and Judy followed them to the beach. Today performers known as 'Professors' still carry on the tradition of Punch and Judy.

The Performance Gallery includes a full size Punch and Judy booth, commissioned from a Brighton Punch and Judy Professor (Sergeant Stone). The backdrop is inspired by a local theme, the Royal Pavilion. The booth is an interactive feature in the Gallery - it is designed for visitors to climb into, and to perform. It contains a set of handling puppets, scripts, and instructions.
