Jewellery can be worn to tell others about where we have been. It may be a holiday souvenir that makes reference to a specific location by bearing its name or an image of a well-known landmark or a material or tequnique associated with that place. Pilgrims wore brooches as badges to tell people the kind of journey they were on or had been on. The military have always been keen on symbolic decoration and commemorate battles with medals whilst individual soldiers have whiled away the lulls in combat to make commemorative tokens of their own.
