I Wear... Introduction

A whole industry and language has formed to interpret the messages of fashion. Just what is the colour of that cardigan or the height of that hemline telling us? The artistic expression of jewellery design has followed a series of trends through the late nineteenth and early twentieth century linked to political and philosophical movements. The extent to which someone wearing an Arts & Crafts necklace, for example, was a supporter of Morris and Ruskins' thinking is however hard to gauge.
